Help Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse Gain Justice

Why Are These Survivors Of Childhood Sexual Abuse Standing By The Fearless Girl Statue.jpgNew York State has some of the nation’s most prohibitive statute of limitation laws when it comes to supporting adult survivors of child sexual abuse. At most, survivors only have until the age of 23 to hold those responsible for the abuse in a court of law.

Understanding that many survivors aren’t ready or able to come forward until much later in life, the current statute of limitation denies justice to countless survivors, allows abusers to “run out the clock” on accountability, and puts additional children at great risk of harm.

Only seven states have created “windows” to allow adult survivors of child sexual assault to seek retrospective civil damages. Meanwhile, 32 states have not eliminated barriers for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse to have their day in court to pursue justice.

By signing the pledge below you can show your support for child sexual abuse legal reforms in New York state and send a strong message to the nation that all states need to stand on the side of child abuse survivors.

Stand up for survivors of child sexual abuse.

PLEDGE:

I believe that survivors of child sexual abuse should be afforded the opportunity to pursue justice in our courts, and that abusers should not be able to simply run out the clock on being held responsible for their actions.

By signing this pledge and opting in to receive emails, you not only show your support, but will be kept informed of how you can help ensure all victims are able to get help.
